But, you often notice that seem to be going nowhere fast. They talk a lot about their “plans” and things that they have “going on”, but you never seem to see them making any progress. They are often the same people who start their own “business” which fails and then they do it over again. There is something to be said for failing your way to success, but these people just seem to be busy-workers. They are always running on the hamster wheel and always talking about their destination, but they never arrive anywhere.

Do you see yourself in that description? If you do, it is good that you are getting this realization right now before you find yourself wiped out and exhausted from the constant running. Being busy has nothing to do with being successful. You can be busy and never make any progress in your life at all. Often, staying busy is just a way of avoiding those things that you do not want to do.

How Do You Cure Laziness?

The best cure for laziness is having a little greediness. That’s right – greed is not always a bad thing. Wanting a little something for yourself is not necessarily a problem as long as you are doing it for the right reasons. If you are too greedy to the exclusion of everyone else or other things in your life, then greed can be bad. On the inside, we all want things. We all want a nicer car or a bigger house, so if you can use that bit of greed to propel yourself toward taking action, the all the better!

Should you feel guilty for wanting better things? Of course not! Don’t let others in your life tell you to suppress your desires for wanting more. There is nothing wrong with wanting more abundance in your life. Guilt can squash your dreams too. Protect yourself from feeling guilty for wanting more in your life. This does not always have to be material items either. It can be wanting more time, more freedom, more love. Just the sheer feeling of wanting more can often make you take action in a more focused manner. Then it is no longer about being busy, but being productive instead.

Make a list of what you really, truly want in your life. Once you have that on paper, you can start creating your game plan for achieving those things. Action steps are what create results. By knowing what you want (and often what you DON’T want), you can better focus on how to get there.

Laziness Breeds Inaction

By avoiding what you don’t want to do, you are giving way to inaction. It is like stopping on the side of the road while you are traveling across the country. Every time you stop, you are delaying your arrival at the final destination. You are creating halts in your progress. You are delaying the gratification of knowing that you have arrived. You are making yourself later and later which them gives you a feeling of having to rush. When you rush, you make mistakes and do low quality work in most cases. This can lead to failure which then makes you believe that you will always fail.

Laziness can start a chain reaction of things that you don’t want to have happen. Instead of giving in to the tantalizing allure of laziness, overcome it with action steps. List the things that you need to do in order to reach your goals and aspirations. As long as you are primarily working on these action steps, you are moving forward. If you are checking email and chatting on Facebook more than needed, you will know that you have moved off course. Having things in writing will give you accountability and a roadmap for how you will find your way to success. Plus, you will always be able to look back and re-trace your steps as you pursue other ventures in the future.

Have you ever heard that old children’s story called “Chicken Little”? Basically, the premise of the story is that the chicken ran around his barnyard to warn everyone that the sky was falling. He had a “glass half empty” doom and gloom outlook on life. That is what we now call cynicism.

We would all like to think that we are positive people who have a great outlook on life. However, if that were the case then the world would be a much happier place, right? There is a little cynicism in all of us, but some people seem to color their entire worlds with it. Do you find yourself criticizing your own thoughts each day? Sometimes we can be the worst cynics in our lives. For instance, let’s say you meet a great new business partner. You hear their background and just know that your partnership is going to make you both a lot of money.

Then, out of the recesses your cynicism starts to creep forward. You start to wonder why they would want to partner with you. Are they really who they say they are? If they are so great, why do they need you? Why haven’t they been successful alone? Before you know it, you are talking yourself right out of a new and potentially profitable partnership just because you are second guessing and doubting your own ability to make good decisions.

The Cynics Around You

Then, you have to deal with the cynics that are all around you. They might come in the form of family members, friends or even co-workers. They are always telling you that things can’t be done. They don’t believe that anyone can really make money online. They think any kind of business you get into much be a scam. Everything is dangerous and fraught with disaster in the mind of a cynic. They think the sky is falling from every direction. These are the people who are constantly warning you and reminding you of things that may have happened in the past.

If you are going to learn to be successful, there is no question that you will encounter cynics all along the way. In fact, watch the nightly news and you will hear warnings galore. While you should pay attention to legitimate information, you cannot move about your life being worried about what could happen. However, you must learn to separate real information from the kind of “information” that cynics spread. These are typically people who spread fear around and never really do anything constructive. They spend their time scaring others and keeping them from achieving their own dreams.

By analyzing what is in front of you, then you are able to make decisions in a well planned manner. By following a cynic’s advice, you are closing yourself off to possibilities. You will be blinded by the misinformation.  If you find that you spend your day thinking about things that you DON’T want to happen, then you can be sure that you are allowing that doubt and fear to overtake your logical mind.

Here is one way to look at it: When you look around you at your family, friends and co-workers, what are they doing with their lives. Let’s say that your mother is constantly giving you “advice”. You know she loves you and means well, but she has no money and a dead end job that she hates. Why in the world would you take advice from a person who is living the opposite kind of lifestyle from what you want? Why would her opinions on the stock market being too dangerous be helpful to you?

On the other hand, let’s say your best friend’s Dad is wealthy and successful. He started with nothing and has made millions in the stock market. He tells you not to invest in a particular stock because he has experience and knows how to play the game. This might be someone that you should not write off as a cynic, but as an experienced business person. Then, you can listen to his advice and decide if it is something you want to follow.

You may think that cannot be true because everyone wants to be rich and successful, right? Even though we all give a lot of lip service to wanting to be successful and have higher incomes, the majority of people are walking around each day with negative thinking patterns and a lot of fear. Because we have this fear of losing money, we don’t ever earn it. After all, why would your mind allow you to earn high levels of money if you are going to fear losing it? As a protection mechanism, your subconscious mind will prevent you from earning that money in the first place.

Are You Playing It Too Safe?

Many people who are starting a new business online or offline find themselves wanting reassurance that what they are doing will be successful. In reality, there is absolutely no way that anyone on the planet can assure you that if you start a new venture it will be successful. Let’s face it- sometimes our ideas fall flat. Sometimes we think things will work out and they just don’t. The timing might be wrong or the idea isn’t a good one. We all fail, and that is just a part of living and doing business. Not every idea or intention pans out. However, it is what you do AFTER that failure which will make or break your business.

Playing it safe is a game for losers. If you just want a second best business, then play it safe. If you want to run with the big dogs and get the bigger income, you have to take some risks. That is not to say that you should be careless and stupid about the risks you take. They should be calculated, thought-driven risks.

Instead of investing that money in a retirement account or mutual funds, they buy nice cars and vacations. People who are smart with money keep the money under control. They use it to build more wealth instead of using it on items that depreciate.

Decide Who You Are

As you set out to battle the fear that we all feel, you need to decide who YOU are. Are you the kind of person who needs reassurance and failure frightens you to the point of inaction, then you should have some kind of stable income to back you up until you are able to build a business. In other words, don’t quit your day job until you have built your new business to the point of being comfortable for you.

However, if you are person who is motivated by fear then do what it takes to get yourself pushed into action. Don’t be stupid and give up a full-time income just out of recklessness. Have a plan and work it. Educate yourself on a constant basis and make your car a rolling university. As you educate yourself more, the less risk you will have. Taking risks does not mean that you throw caution to the wind and jump into unknown waters. Go in with your eyes open and your mind full of information that you can use.

We have all heard the saying “Feel the fear and do it anyway”. This is the kind of person who succeeds in life and in business. They feel the fear just like anyone else, but they do it anyway. They are more prone to take action that other people. They see fear as a guidepost and not a roadblock. They use fear as a motivator and indicator of what needs to be done. They never look at fear as a stopping point, but more of a directional sign. Don’t be afraid of losing money; be afraid of never making any money in the first place because of your inaction. Nothing Can Happen Until You Take Action

While planning is a vital component to overall success in life, some people can get stuck in a perpetual state of planning and never take any action. You cannot make sure that every action you take will be successful before you even start. Nothing is without risk, especially if there is a reward at the end.

The key to making yourself successful in business and in life is being willing to fail from time to time. We’ve all heard stories of super successful business people who failed dozens if not hundreds of times before they were finally able to crack the key to success. However, if you are never willing to be a failure then you won’t likely see success anytime soon. You have to be willing to take massive action on your ideas and concepts before they can be successful.

It’s important to know that your ideas are not enough to make you wealthy and successful. Ideas are mental tidbits of information floating around in your brain, but if they never see the light of day then you cannot use them to pave your way to success. Even if you take the wrong action, you have to consider that to be a learning experience along your journey.

Having theories and ideas is not going to put money in your bank account. People are often very disgruntled and frustrated when they see someone else take action on one of their ideas and make millions of dollars. We all have thoughts from time to time that could result in huge amounts of wealth if we would simply take the action steps needed to create a business around it. The faster that you start to take action, the faster you will reach your destination. Welcome the failures. Welcome the roadblocks. These are all a part of your journey, and they will constantly be a guiding light to your success. Later, you will look back on these failures as learning opportunities. They will teach you what not to do. Understanding what you shouldn’t do is almost as important as understanding what you should do. It is all part of the process of becoming who you need to be in order to accept and attract the successful lifestyle that you desire.

So how do you begin to take action? Think about the end result you want to achieve. Start making a list of the steps that you need to take in order to get there. Of course, nothing is perfect but this will give you a process that you can undertake as you begin to make steps toward your end goal. Schedule time to work on those action steps each day or each week. Check them off as you go along as this will encourage you to continue taking action. It seems like negative thinking is actually more common than positive thinking. In fact, thinking negatively doesn’t take any effort and seems to come easily for most of us. On the other hand, positive thinking does take some level of effort and focus. People who were brought up in a typically positive household seem to be able to see the bright side of everything. People who are brought up in a “glass half empty” kind of house may have a harder time seeing the positive aspects in different situations.

When you see the world from a positive perspective, you’re more likely to look past the potential faults and failures of any new business opportunity. In other words, you know that there are going to be failures along the way but you push past them because you can see the positive aspects of what you’re doing. Some people have a problem with self sabotage. As they start to do better, they subconsciously sabotage themselves. Then, they can proclaim this as another failure which further sends them into a downward spiral of negativity.

There are many things that you can do to get rid of your negative ways of thinking. All of them require focus and perpetual attention until they become habit. For instance, stay away from watching the nightly news or anything else that will put you in a negative frame of mind a regular basis. Some people watch the news or read the latest headlines, which are always negative, and let that color their day. It’s important to shield your mind from negativity that can change your outlook. If you want to read the headlines, look at them once you’re finished with your daily work and don’t focus on them for a long period of time.

Every time you catch yourself thinking something that is negative, stop yourself and replace it with a positive thought instead. Create a visualization board by cutting out pictures and words that help you focus on what you want. You can hang this in your office or somewhere prominently in your home so that it serves as a constant reminder of where your focus should be. Any time you start visualizing failure, stand in front of your board and remember what your ultimate goal is.

Another great way of re-focusing your attention on positive things is by journaling. Start journaling every negative thought that you have so that you can rewrite it into a positive tone. Only by catching all of the negative things you say to yourself throughout the day can you turn them around into something positive.

Many people believe that what you think about, you become. Therefore, if you sit around thinking about all of the failures that you can envision for yourself, you are likely to find yourself in a constant state of failing. On the other hand, if you envision yourself as a success in your mind and actions will follow suit as you make decisions about your business.

One final thought about negative thinking: if you surround yourself with other negative thinkers, you’re only going to get more of the same. Hanging around with other people who think in this way will not lead you towards success. You must surround yourself with other positive people who are on a course with a vision in mind.

You might have some general idea of how to get there such as “go West”, however, you will never find the specific place you want to go without having a roadmap. Sure, you could ask people along the way but that would take a lot of time and energy for no reason. Businesses create mission statements as a way of making sure that they keep their focus pointed in the right direction. In other words, you don’t want to be doing things that don’t line up with your overall goal. If your goal is to become a book writer, then you don’t want to spend your time learning how to build a website, for instance. If your goal is to run a public relations organization, then you don’t want to take car repair classes. This is a huge mistake because you cannot set sail for your course without any map of where you’re going. The same can be said for setting out on a journey to a new business. If you don’t have any steps listed out in a logical order, you’re likely to end up with a big mess at the end.

Everyone has exactly 24 hours a day in order to get things done. The key to successful people is usually that they know how to leverage their time effectively. This doesn’t mean that they handle all of their daily tasks themselves, however. Sometimes, it makes sense to leverage the time of other people in order to make the most effective use of all 24 hours of your day.

This is one of the reasons why outsourcing has become very popular for many entrepreneurs. While many of these people are based in the United States, they may have a virtual assistant or outsourcer doing other tasks for them in another country. This means that their businesses are often running 24 hours a day even while they are sleeping or on vacation. Of course, if you are somebody who is just starting out in the business world then you might not be able to afford an outsourcer. This is why it’s vitally important that you learn how to manage your own time.

One time-sucking activity that many people get addicted to is checking e-mail. In fact, a study by Glasgow University showed that 50% of people check their e-mail more than one time per hour. 35% of people are checking their e-mail every 15 minutes. Truth be told, many people are checking their e-mail even more than this. If you have your volume turned up on your computer, you are likely checking your e-mail every time you hear that “ding” go off. But is this the most valuable use of your time?

E-mail is only one of the ways that you can actually find yourself wasting time during the day. Surfing on forums, reading articles and just getting generally distracted are three ways that you can be losing time in your workday. Staying focused is extremely important when you’re trying to reach your goals. You might not be someone who is real keen on having a set schedule, especially if you’re an entrepreneurial type. One way to handle the lure of checking your e-mail dozens of times during the day is to decide on two separate times throughout the day where you will regularly check your e-mails. Otherwise, turn down your volume or close your e-mail so that you’re not tempted to take a look. You can even let people who regularly e-mail you know that you will be checking your e-mail only twice per day so they shouldn’t expect to hear from you as quickly as they used to. This will stop you from trying to multitask during the day by doing your work and checking e-mails at the same time. We all know that if we get an e-mail that requires an answer, we will often stop to write the answer and get sidetracked which causes us to not finish our work.

If you are trying to maximize your time management skills, you might want to set alarms on your computer. In other words, let’s say you want to spend at least one hour working on a new e-book you’re writing. You can set computer alarms to go off in one hour and then focus yourself to write straight through for the entire time until the alarm goes off. This gives you something to strive for and keeps you on task so you are not as tempted to stray away from your computer during your working time. Everyone needs to handle their time management in a different way, but one thing is for sure: if you don’t manage your time, success will take a lot longer to reach.

However, what I see online is that many people expect an overnight million-dollar payday because of everything they hear from the online gurus. The thing you have to remember is that starting a business is not going to be an overnight success for most people. People who are truly successful over the long haul are the same ones who are willing to persevere through failure, flops and hard times.

 The more you fail, the closer you are to success. With each and every failure, the more you are learning about how not to do things. You have to be willing to fail in order to succeed. You have to be willing to try everything and just keep pushing through until you reach your final destination. You have to be willing to put up with all the crap, lots of working hours, lots of brainstorming and a long list of tasks that need to be done.

 There are people in the world who are simply not meant to be business owners or entrepreneurs. These are the people who are perfectly happy generating their “stable” income from someone else. These are the same people who have no problem lining the pockets of their employer rather than building their own business for the future. That’s okay because every business needs workers. You have to really think through whether or not you are the type of person who is able to withstand all of the possible failure and upset that comes along with building your own business.

 It’s so easy to say don’t give up when you’re not the person who is experiencing hard times. However, what is your choice really? If you give up, you have let go of any chance that you’re going to be successful. If you drop everything after working so hard and just walk away, you have to make sure that it’s really the right thing to do. Emotions have no place in business, but they often end up right in the middle of it. In business and in life we really have two choices: to give the up or to persevere.

 So how do you make sure that you never give up when things get tough? The first thing you have to make certain of is that you have a clear set of goals and aspirations that motivate you when times are hard. This might mean creating your own vision board or some kind of a journal where you keep a list of all the things you want to achieve. Some people use pictures of their children or items that they want to purchase once they are successful. Find whatever motivates you so that you can use it during the times of stress and struggle.

 Another way to persevere through tough times is by having the group that you can interact with and share your journey. This might be some kind of a mastermind group or even just a few close friends who are trying to build their businesses as well. Don’t try to do everything on your own because you need an outlet where you can share your concerns and problems. Often times, you will find that brainstorming with other people leads you out of these negative areas a lot quicker. Be mindful to only mastermind with positive people and not negative individuals who will only bring you down, however.

 The key to never giving up is remembering that there is always hope and always the possibility of success being just around the corner. You have to push through even when you think it’s all for naught.
